On Thursday, November 17, 2022, the Subdivision of Table Salt Producers and Packers in the Chamber of Food Industries held its first meeting in the new session of the Chamber’s Board of Directors to discuss and present the variables and developments in the salt industry in Egypt, headed by Mr. Mohamed Saleh Bashanfar, head of the Division and member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, and in the presence of a large number of members of the Division in the Chamber.
A set of solutions to the problems facing the salt industry and cultivation were discussed, where it was agreed that the concerned authorities in the state should pay attention to salt as a strategic commodity, and to work on the importance of finding a mechanism to limit the packaging companies in the informal sector that cause problems in quality and price, in addition to the Egyptian Mining Company reviewing quality requirements, and return to the terms of contracting with salt pans.
The problem of the length of time to obtain licenses for the refining plant was also addressed, as well as the multiplicity of documents required, which exceed the commercial and industrial registry to documents that have nothing to do with the factory, but rather concern suppliers and producers.
The Division called for supporting the development of salt pans and organizing the export process, taking into account the cost of the product and maintenance expenses, to encourage exports by canceling or reducing the fees imposed in dollars on exported quantities, which amount to two dollars per ton, stressing that these methods are illogical while encouraging Mr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to increase exports and the status of the state and make the state a priority to achieve $100 billion annual exports.
