Workshop on the “Periodic control procedures for the white-list company” in cooperation with the National Food Safety Authority

The Chamber of Food Industries organized a workshop on the periodic control procedures for the establishments listed in the whitelists of the National Food Safety Authority; and the most important developments of the periodic inspection and control of food establishments and how to comply with them. The event was held in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Abdel Fadil, Director of the Factory Control Department at the Authority and his assistant team. On Sunday 19/6/2022.

“State Ownership Policy” document

The Chamber of Food Industries organized an online workshop in coordination with the Information and Decision Support Center following the Egyptian Cabinet, in order to present the most important features of the state ownership policy document. The Document was prepared through the participation of a group of experts in order to activate the partnership between the public and private sectors aiming to create a better and attractive economic environment for investment. The workshop was held on Saturday, June 25, 2022.

Training program to facilitate member companies enrollment in the White list of the "National Food Safety Authority"

Within the framework of the fruitful and constructive cooperation between the Chamber and the National Bank of Egypt to support the food industry sector and enhance its competitiveness, and in belief of the role played by the National Food Safety Authority to ensure that the food produced, manufactured, distributed or traded in the market achieves the highest standards of safety and health and comply with the requirements of food safety, the Chamber organized a training program to facilitate member companies enrollment in the White list of the "National Food Safety Authority" on Monday, June 27, and Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Orientation about the Chamber of Food Industries and its services

The Chamber of Food Industries organized an orientation about the Chamber and its services for the newly joined members. The event was held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 to shed light on the Chamber’s endeavor to build bridges of constructive and positive communication with the members, in order to provide a distinguished service that would improve the business climate, create opportunities for investment and expansion, and enhance the image of the Egyptian food industries in the local and global markets. The seminar was attended by a group of number of business partners to introduce the services provided by them to serve and support the sector.

Training Program about (Circular Economy)

Chamber of Food Industries organized a training program about (Circular Economy) from July 4, 2022 until July 6, 2022, to provide the necessary technical support for how to achieve the greatest use of resources and to reduce unnecessary costs and to identify opportunities to reach a balance between financial, social and environmental performance.

Food Safety Training of Trainers Program

The Chamber of Food Industries and the Farmer-to-Farmer -Project for Quality and Food Safety, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Land O'Lakes Venture37- organized a Training of Trainers on Food Safety System (TOT), From July 4 to July 7, 2022. The training was conducted by "Mary Mueller", expert in the field of training of trainers, "Sherry Kahnke", expert in the field of food safety as keynote speakers.

Webinar on (Italian Experiences in Water Recycling Solutions for Tomato Products)

The Chamber of Food Industries organized an online seminar entitled (Italian experiences in water recycling solutions used in the manufacture of tomato products) via Zoom on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, within the framework of the “Project for the Comprehensive and Sustainable Development of the Tomato Value Chain in Egypt” which is being implemented by the United Nations UNIDO, funded by the Italian government - the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development, in cooperation with the Chamber.

Field visit to the Food Safety and Development Center- Qaha

The Chamber of Food Industries organized a field visit to the Food Development and Safety Center following the Holding Company for Food Industries - Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade in the city of Qaha (Qalyubia). The center was opened at the beginning of year 2022. All the services provided by the center and the highly equipped laboratories with the latest devices were identified, and the meeting highlighted the possible joint cooperation between the two parties in order to provide distinguished services for food establishments.

The first exhibition for “Comprehensive Green Growth Project “- Luxor

Within the activities of the first conference and exhibition for the “Comprehensive Green Growth Project in Egypt”, the Chamber of Food Industries participated in a session organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and with the support of the Swiss Embassy. The event was held on Wednesday, July 27th, 2022, and Mr. Mahmoud El-Bassiouny, the Executive Director of the Chamber, participated in the discussion to shed light on the challenges related to compatibility with the requirements of green growth and climate changes and their impact on the sector; and ways of support and assistance that can be provided in this pursuit. The session was attended by a number of officials from ministries and authorities, heads of companies and entrepreneurs

The Chamber of Food Industries organized a field tour in Beni Suef Governorate on September 8, 2022, as part of the Chamber’s efforts to support its members at the level of the governorates of the Republic, and to get acquainted closely with the needs of food establishments and the challenges they face. During the tour, the industrial zone of Kom Abu Radi was visited, and the plantform factory for pickles was visited within the framework of the comprehensive green growth project in Egypt of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization "UNIDO". Distinguished services and in order to save time and effort, this tour was conducted by Mr. Mahmoud El-Bassiouni, Executive Director of the Chamber, and Mr. Osama Sabra, Chairman of the Upper House Committee.

“First Arab Regional Forum for voluntary Third-party Assurance (vTPA)”

The Chamber of Food Industries participated in the “First Arab Regional Forum for voluntary Third- party Assurance (vTPA)” Held by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (Unido) in cooperation with the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization, and Mining AIDSMO, during the period from August 30 to September 1, 2022, in the Jordanian capital, Amman. Eng. Shahat Selim, Deputy Executive Director for Government Relations, and Legislation of the chamber participated in this conference. The Chamber is currently studying the possibility of applying this system to Egyptian companies interested in the light of the CXG Codex specification and in coordination with the National Food Safety Authority.

workshop for private sector companies "The Egyptian Seal for Gender Equality"

Within the framework of the cooperation protocol between the Chamber of Food Industries and the “project to enhance women’s opportunities in agricultural industrialization” funded by the Canadian government, and in strategic partnership with the National Council for Women, and implemented at the levels of the governorates of Beni Suef and Minya, the Chamber participated on Monday, September 19, 2022 in the first day’s activities for the workshop, in the presence of representatives of the project’s strategic partners and a number of representatives of food establishments, members of the Chamber. During the seminar, the objectives of the project were reviewed, its technical and advisory services were introduced, and the Egyptian Seal for Gender Equality was granted. Success stories were presented for each of the "Plantform" company and "Mazari" company as models for companies that consider gender and are in the process of obtaining the Egyptian seal for gender equality. Mr. Mahmoud Al-Basiouni, Executive Director of the Chamber, reviewed the activities and events that the Chamber will implement in coordination with the project during the coming period in the framework of its endeavor to raise awareness and introduce all the services it provides at the level of the Republic, especially the micro, small and medium-sized companies in Upper Egypt and work to link them in Supply chains and providing possible means of support for their compliance with international requirements and standards to enhance their competitiveness and achieve the goals of sustainable development and Egypt's Vision 2030.

Ordinary General Assembly meeting for the year 2021

The Chamber of Food Industries organized the first meeting of the Ordinary General Assembly "for the year 2021" in light of Law (70) of the Federation of Industries, Headed by Eng.Ashraf Al- Gazairli, Chairman of the Chamber, and in the presence of Eng. Muhammad Abdel-Harith, representative of His Excellency the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Khaled Abdel-Azim, Executive Director of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, Mr. Ahmed Abdullah, representative of the office of Mahmoud Salah El-Din, the chartered accountant and auditor, and each of MS.Rana Jamali, Eng. Barzi, MR.Muhammad Bashanfar, and Dr. Muhammad Abd al- Hamid al-Shafi’i, members of the Board of Directors, MR. Mahmoud al-Basiouni, Executive Director, and a large number of members of the Chamber. Eng. Ashraf Al-Gazairli opened the meeting by thanking the officials for their efforts to support industries, especially the food industry sector.
During the meeting, Mr. Mahmoud Al-Basiouni reviewed the Chamber's achievements in 2021, including "establishing new departments, digital transformation of procedures and services, organizing the first annual conference under the auspices of the Prime Ministry, introducing new services for members, and concluding strategic companies such as cooperation agreements between the Chamber and each of the" National Bank, and the Central Laboratory for the Analysis of Pesticide Residues, in addition to cooperation with the Taib Project, and participation with the Central Bank in the initiative for financial inclusion and economic empowerment of women. The Chamber’s budget from 2017 to 2021 was also presented and approved and approved by the General Assembly, and the Board of Directors was released from responsibility for these years. Meeting with the Director of Food Safety and Nutrition of the Egyptian Rural Agribusiness Promotion Project (ERAS)

It was agreed during the meeting to organize a set of technical support programs, starting from the beginning of next month, for the members of the Chamber working in the field of (agricultural processing) for training on (BRC) programs, the ninth version, the requirements of the National Food Safety Authority, and the Hazard Analysis Plan and Critical Control Points (HACCP level). The applicant), FSSC 22000, and on the other hand, the chamber will coordinate with the technical team of the project to carry out field visits to the agricultural manufacturing companies registered with the National Food Safety Authority, with the aim of providing the necessary technical support, meeting the requirements of the authority, and accelerating the process of listing in the whitelist. Within the framework of the role of the Chamber of Food Industries in promoting cooperation and exchanging experiences with international bodies and donor institutions to support the food industry sector, The Chamber held a meeting with Dr. Ahmed Galal, Director of Food Safety, in the "Food for the Future: Project to Promote Agricultural Business in the Egyptian Rural (ERAS)" project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), with the aim of activating cooperation between the two sides and achieving maximum benefit through the project.

Meeting with the Agricultural Attaché of the Embassy of Brazil

The Chamber of Food Industries received at its headquarters Mr. Cesar Simas Teles, the agricultural attaché of the Brazilian Embassy, Dr. Hatem Farrag, the technical assistant to the agricultural attache, and representatives of the Brazilian agency to discuss enhancing opportunities for cooperation with members of the chamber in a number of important sub-sectors, which allows for the promotion of Trade exchange between the two countries within the framework of the free trade agreement signed between Egypt and Mercosur, which includes Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. The meeting comes considering the interest of Brazilian companies in the Egyptian market and their efforts to be present in the international exhibitions held on their soil, in particular the Food Africa exhibition, which is scheduled to be held from 5-7 December 2022. During the meeting, it was agreed to organize and host bilateral business exchange meetings between the companies represented in the Brazilian pavilion and the member companies of the Chamber in the Chamber's pavilion at the exhibition, and to discuss more areas of cooperation with representatives of the Brazilian agency.

Meeting with the Technical Support Project Expert for the Comprehensive Technical Education Initiative with Egypt (TCTI)

The Chamber of Food Industries held a meeting with (Martina Voss), an expert on the technical support project for the Comprehensive Technical Education Initiative with Egypt (TCTI), which is implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, with the aim of cooperation between the two parties and how to establish centers of excellence that It aims to raise the skills and abilities of technical school graduates in partnership between the private sector and the Ministry of Education and Technical Education.
During the meeting, the Chamber's efforts in the field of contributing to the development of technical education and what will be implemented through (the cooperation protocol signed with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education) were presented. It was also agreed to identify the technical schools nominated for the establishment of COCs, provided that coordination takes place at a later time. With private sector companies to identify priority sectors and related professions, and ways for the private sector to participate in centers of excellence.
