
The Various Food Products Division of the Chamber of Food Industries held a meeting for producers and packers of table salt, headed by Mr. Mohamed Saleh Salem, member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and head of the Various Food Products Division, and a number of producers and packagers of table salt, members of the Chamber, where market developments and the most important challenges facing the sector were reviewed. Mr. Muhammad Saleh Salem stressed the Chamber’s continued support for the advancement of the national industry, including table salt industries, by working with regulatory and research authorities to solve the challenges facing producers in fair competition and the availability of iodine for salt iodization, as the Chamber cooperates directly with relevant authorities such as the National Food Safety Authority and the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality, and the National Institute of Nutrition of the Ministry of Health. He also explained that the Chamber has combined efforts with the National Institute of Nutrition to determine the actual needs of factories included in the national program for iodization of fortified iodine table salt, as it was noted that the quantities required for companies have increased based on previous studies. The Chamber is also working in cooperation with the Ministry of Health to examine how to secure the actual needs of Iodine for factories according to local production through secretariat meetings of the National Program for Iodization of Table Salt.
At the end of the meeting, the attendees presented the challenges they face, especially the factories listed in the national program for table salt identification, and development proposals.
