The Sugar, Confectionary, and Chocolates Division of the Chamber of Food Industries held its regular meeting, headed by Eng. Hassan Al-Fendi, to discuss the government’s position on providing the factories’ sugar needs, in addition to inventorying the raw materials not released at the ports, on July 18th, 2023.
Eng. Hassan Al-Fendi confirmed that the Chamber of Food Industries is in constant communication with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade and the Supply Commodities Authority regarding providing factories’ sugar needs until the sugar cane and beet supply season next March.
He pointed out the necessity of working to ensure a stable state of raw sugar for food factories, as it represents 50% of the basic raw materials for the candy and chocolate industries, pointing out that sugar is one of the strategic commodities that the country is keen to have available in the markets, such as wheat, corn, and others, and thus any rumors about it are spread. Therefore, the spread of any rumors about its shortage will greatly affect markets and prices and harm the entire production process and export contracts.
For his part, Eng. Ahmed Al-Fendi, a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, confirmed that the Council is constantly discussing the situation of the availability of raw materials and production requirements for factories in the various regions and the release of shipments at the ports, including sugar, flour, cocoa, and others, in addition to problems related to gas, insurance and taxes, and moves quickly to solve any problem. Facing the production process. Al-Fandi called on the members of the Sugar, Confectionary, and Chocolates Division to make an inventory check of all the raw materials and quantities required within the framework of the Chamber’s study to meet the needs of food factories, in addition to following up on the release of containers at the ports for all production elements. For his part, Eng. Al-Shahat Selim, Deputy Executive Director for Legislation and Government Relations, said that the Ministry of Supply is considering providing the sugar needs of factories, noting that the Supply Commodities Authority has issued a tender to import 50 thousand tons of sugar.
