
The Special Foods Division of the Chamber of Food Industries held an expanded meeting in the presence of Dr. Rasha Galal, Director of the Food Registration and Licensing Department of the National Food Safety Authority – in the presence of a large number of manufacturers and producing companies, members of the Chamber. The second meeting of the Division discussed the laws and guidelines regulating special foods and product registration at the Authority in light of National Food Safety Authority Resolution No. 1 of 2017 and its complementary Resolution No. 13 of 2021, on April 9, 2023.
Dr. Adel Ismail, Head of the Special Foods Division, stressed the Chamber’s efforts to support and aid the file of transferring the dependency of food supplements to the National Food Safety Authority and its powers in light of Resolution 13 of 2021. He added that the meeting discussed many important and necessary files for special food manufacturers, such as regulatory decisions and instructions required to be recorded on products and packages. In addition to the process of registering special foods and nutritional supplements of all kinds.
He explained that the products exempted from registration were identified, allergens were also discussed, and it was clarified what data are recorded for the effect of allergens, as well as bar code data, and that it was agreed with the authority to prepare a simplified guide for guidelines for factories and private food companies in everything related to their specializations in food safety which includes registering products, ensuring facilities meet requirements, and joining the authority’s white list.
Mr. Mahmoud Al-Bassyouni, Executive Director of the Chamber, also stressed the necessity of holding meetings for the various divisions and committees on a regular basis and the importance of the constructive participation of members, experts, and representatives of relevant bodies to discuss the most important files and issues related to the sector.
He added that the Chamber is providing the necessary technical support to food establishments with the aim of completing corrective measures and working to expedite inclusion in the Authority’s white list.
It is worth noting that the number of private food and nutritional supplement factories that are members of the Chamber of Food Industries is 588 factories, including 21 nutritional supplement companies registered on the National Food Safety Authority’s white list so far, while the registered products have reached 5,600 nutritional supplements.
