The Divisions of Traditional Dairy, Oils and Fats, and Muesli Manufacturers organized an expanded meeting with representatives of metal containers (Tin) manufacturers at the Chamber of Engineering Industries, in the presence of representatives of the National Food Safety Authority and a number of the chamber’s member companies. This meeting aimed to raise awareness among the members of the chamber and introduce the requirements for food safety and compliance with the technical regulations issued from the Authority regarding materials and tools in contact with food No. 17 of 2022 and the requirements that must be met in containers that come into contact with food in order to ensure food safety and not cause any contamination.
Mr. Ahmed Ghazi, Head of the Traditional Dairy Division in the Chamber of Food Industries, stressed that the binding requirements for factories and the facilities provided by the National Food Safety Authority have been defined for the qualification, registration, and accreditation of the manufacturing of metal containers necessary for trading in both local and export markets, and for registering the packaging business with the Authority. In turn, we emphasize the easing of procedures, registration, and awareness of binding rules for factories.
Dr. Mona Al-Abd, responsible for the food contact materials file at the National Food Safety Authority, added that companies producing metal containers and surfaces in contact with food must be obligated to adhere to the rules and requirements announced by the National Food Safety Authority and issue a certificate of conformity and deliver it to food producers, noting that producers are obligated to use packaging materials that are compatible with the requirements and prove this with documents supporting and analyzing tests that prove that they are healthy through 3 accredited laboratories: the Royal Laboratory in Ain Sokhna, the Central Laboratory for Pesticide Residues, and the laboratories of the Export and Import Control Authority. She also assured that there is complete coordination between the National Food Safety Authority and the Chamber of Food Industries to prepare and qualify the factories to complete the steps, follow-up, approve conformity, analyze, and provide the necessary facilities for the compatibility of factories producing food and producing containers and packaging.
