Eng. Zakaria El-Shafei, said that the sector witnessed a somewhat breakthrough in providing dollars for the exit of food commodities from oil raw materials from the ports and to meet some of the factories’ needs to a large extent.
He pointed out that the Prime Minister promised the immediate release of goods from the ports and gave priority to securing dollar credits for some industries, including the oil industries, as providing the dollar for the oils and packaging industries is the most important and main factor for market stability with the availability of supply, especially since Egypt imports the bulk of the consumption of edible oils. The annual consumption volume is estimated at 2.4 million tons, indicating that factories must procure about $300 million annually to provide 200,000 tons of edible oils.
The meeting was attended by a large number of representatives of the chamber’s member companies, and the members’ proposals on the current checklist, procedures for customs release of food oils to the authority, and binding technical rules for maximum limits of trans fatty acids in food were discussed.
